Just cheecking to see what your desired headstock thickness is for steel string slotheads...

About 3/32" thicker than the tuners require.

As the other guys said, it is really determined by the tuners. If you have a jig for drilling the holes keep in mind that it may be designed to centre the holes on a certain thickness of headstock. Check to make sure your jig will drill the holes on centre for whatever thickness you end up using.

I use 3/4", the same as Martin.

Martin slotted HS's including veneer are .79" +\- a couple .000

Prewar Martins are 3/4".
I am not all that interested in anything Martin has made since....particularly the ugly squarish slotted headstocks they used in the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's. They are too wide near the nut.

OK -- I just measure a few of the brand new "A" quality replacements sitting on the shelf in our shop thought that was pretty accurate information.
